A 'lawyer (from Latin'advocatus, "called the rescue") is a person who exercises a professional defense (legal) party in trial and in all kinds of lawsuits and administrative. In addition, evaluates and provides advice on legal matters. In most of the systems of different countries, for the exercise of this profession one must be registered in a Bar, or have an authorization from the State to practice.

Lawyers and judges also are called colloquially and an ingrained habit but really not all doctors are, for the degree of Doctor must make original contributions to the new Law, in which case the lawyer obtained the PhD or JD degree in right.

Professional practice == == Generically one can define the term lawyer as a "person with a bachelor's degree entitled under the law of each country, which exercises the law in support of third persons, being an active and indispensable assistant in the administration of justice in a country.

In Spain the professional activity is regulated by the Advocate General Statute of the Spanish Bar, approved by Royal Decree 658/2001, of June 22, Article 6 provides that "rests exclusively with the name and role of counsel in that Law Degree exercise professional leadership and defense of the parties in all sorts of processes, or asesoramioento and legal advice, "adding Article 9.1 that" are lawyers who, added to a Spanish Bar Association as practicing and meet the requirements for therefore engage in a professional counseling, harmony and safeguarding the legal interests of others, public and private.

The lawyer is responsible for defending the interests of one party to the dispute. Being a professional counsel specifically trained and skilled in legal matters, is the only person who can offer an appropriate approach to the problem to the general public or 'justice'.

It should be noted that in addition to his involvement in the trial, a basic function and leading lawyer is preventative. With proper advice and drafting of contracts and documents, social conflicts can be avoided, so that counsel, rather than litigation or proceedings, serves to not reach them, often serving as court mediator. So much so that in most court proceedings is required to appear before the court is supported or defended by a lawyer acting as legal director, which means any letter or legal filing to be signed by the client (or his legal representative, attorney per year), by counsel, which will guarantee a proper exercise of the right of defense during the process.

A lawyer usually has powers of his client or customer by a public authority by, or granted "apud acta" by appearing in court or tribunal, so you can run it in trial, or represent it in legal or administrative actions that do not require necessarily, Attorney / a of the Courts, and the attorney representing the litigant.

The lawyer's performance is based on the principles of freedom and independence. The principles of trust and good faith governs relations between client and lawyer, who is bound by professional secrecy. The lawyer is due to his client first, and must litigate consciously about the social responsibility that is, with a critical and balanced act in the service of social peace, which works with the courts and courts within the judicial system of each country.

Through the bar or agencies, depending on the country, there are legal aid services for citizens who lack the financial means to pay attorney fees. == == Organizational Forms Traditionally, lawyers practiced their profession alone or in small groups. It was in USA in the late nineteenth century when lawyers began to gather in larger groups, a trend that would quickly into Europe and then to other countries with significant development of the profession. As a very special case could be cited France, where even today, with a few exceptions, lawyers are working alone or in small groups.

Generalizing, one might say that the organizational forms that lawyers have been given are basically three. First, and by far the most used, are lawyers practicing alone or in small groups. Secondly, even if is a formula that retreats are communities ceiling where lawyers essentially share ownership of a building or community contributions to overheads, and each carries its own customers. Third, regardless of the corporate structure chosen, are law firms or law firms, which generally focuses most complex and important work being done in a country for business, government or people.

From another perspective, we can say that law firms are classified as small, medium and large. Although this nomenclature will be used differently in each country, it is generally accepted that a small study has up to 50 lawyers, and that one study is large when it reaches at least 100 lawyers. The law firms are classified themselves as generalists and specialists, or "one stop shop" and "boutique" to use more contemporary language. While it is true that in general it is found that the size of law firms depends on the size of the population and economy of a country, there are excellent examples of this is not a closed rule, such is the case of New Zealand and Ireland, where several studies with more than 200 lawyers in the case of towns near the four million inhabitants.

The largest law firms currently bordering the 4,000 lawyers, if true multinationals. Most studies of mega (1,000 or more lawyers) have their origin in the United States or the United Kingdom.
